DEPARTMENT: Campus Rec & Wellness REPORTS TO: Director of Campus Rec & Wellness EMPLOYED BY: Student Activity Association Inc. (SAA) Not Employed by East Stroudsburg University. POSITION SUMARY: This full-time position will assist the Director of Campus Rec & Wellness in meeting the mission of the programs and the goals of its students and members. This position will be responsible for implementing the Fitness and Wellbeing programs including group fitness, personal training, and wellness programs for the campus community. It will also help operate the 58,000 square foot and 15,000 square foot Rec B Fitness facility. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: General: • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, evaluate, schedule, and professionally develop the student Fitness and Wellbeing staff • Coordinate and maintain proper certification of all fitness personnel • Develop necessary promotional materials for the programs • Responsible for general maintenance and set-up/break down of all Recreation Center equipment. • Aid in the development and revision of facility, program and training manuals • Oversee the purchase and inventory of facility and program equipment • Implement risk management procedures • Maintain accurate reports that include forms, participant numbers and other program data. • Evaluate program offerings and make recommendations that are in response to member’s interests and needs • Assist with the development of the Recreation Center budget. • Assist with development and implementation of the department’s student learning outcomes and administrative unit outcomes • Supervise night, weekend, and/or holiday Recreation Center activities and programs. • Administer “In Training” programs for the Group Fitness & Personal Training Staff Group Fitness: • Develop a comprehensive calendar of group fitness classes and small group training sessions • Teach group fitness classes, small group trainings, and substitute when needed • Coordinate with other campus units to provide faculty & staff fitness opportunities to the campus community Personal Training: • Personal train clients when needed • Match the individual needs of members to fitness packages that will help them fulfill their health goals • Organize and implement fitness assessments Other: • Coordinate with campus academic departments to create “out of classroom” experiential learning experiences in the field of personal training. • Demonstrate a commitment to the issues of social equity and continue to develop professionally in the area of multicultural competence • Attend regional/national conferences while supervising student delegates • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of the Recreation Center or the Executive Director of the Student Activity Association, Inc. • Maintain current CPR, First Aid and AED Instructor Certification
Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise and Sport Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Recreation, Sports Management, Administration, or related field. • Certification in Group Fitness/Exercise or Personal Training in nationally recognized agencies such as ACSM, NSCA, ACE, or AFAA • 1-year experience in recreation programming, or teaching Group Fitness or Personal Training. Preferred Qualifications • Master’s Degree in Exercise and Sport Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Recreation, Sports Management, Administration, or related field. • Certification in both Group Fitness/Exercise and Personal Training with nationally recognized agencies such as ASCM, NSCA, ACE, of AFAA • Specialty Group Fitness/Exercise certifications/trainings - Zumba®, indoor cycling, yoga, and any other choreographed group fitness/exercise classes. • 2-years, full-time experience in the recreation programming, teaching group fitness classes, and personal training Physical Requirements • Ability to bend and squat; and stand or sit for extended periods of time. • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally • Must have a valid state issued driver’s license *Accommodations for these requirements can be made and must be requested and coordinated through the Director of Business Services in conjunction with the individual's direct supervisor.
