Florida Gulf Coast University Recreation & Wellness is looking for motivated and authentic individuals to join our collaborative team. We seek reliable and effective communicators, who are also fun and creative individuals. This position will join a team of 22 full-time professional staff, 4 graduate assistants, and over 200 students who value a culture of integrity, quality, growth, community, and play.
The Prevention & Wellness CoordinatorII implements, supports, markets, and promotes health and wellness programming for the Prevention & Wellness unit within University Recreation & Wellness. This position oversees and coordinates the Peer Education Programs to support the Prevention & Wellness program area goals and assists with all aspects of health education programming.
Job Description
Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
Coordinates, implements, and evaluates programs to promote student health and wellness.
Develops outreach programs and/or educational strategies to support the training, development, and recruitment and retention of Peer Educators.
Oversees the Peer Educator recruitment and selection process. Responsible for the training, supervision, and assessment of Peer Educators.
Implements, participates, and/or conducts formal training programs for Peer Educators. Assists with the development of Peer Education programming.
Oversees and schedules programming requests.
Advises students in social, cultural, health, and psychological areas affecting student development and wellness outside of academic programs.
Coordinates, schedules, and oversees tabling around campus representing Prevention & Wellness programming.
Assists with attendance and program tracking in Eagle Link.
Builds and maintains strong administrative structure for the management and development of wellness programming and resources.
Performs annual assessments of Peer Education Programs and evaluates using relevant data.
Formulates and recommends policies and procedures.
Stays current on trends and education regarding issues facing college students in order to develop and execute new and improved programming.
Other Duties:
Assists with health promotion/programming and outreach support efforts including alcohol and drug abuse prevention.
Serves on assigned University Recreation & Wellness and University work teams or committees as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or closely related field.
Four years of professional, full-time experience working in health education, health promotion, student health, or closely related field.
Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or closely related field.
Experience with wellness outreach, health promotion, programming, and presentations.
Prevention experience with alcohol and drug use, abuse, and dependence including social norms.
Experience in community psychology.
Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of basic health education, counseling skills and an ability to apply in areas of educational presentations, program assessment, personal wellness, problem solving, conflict resolution, and group management.
Knowledge of the fundamental indicators of student mental health concerns, substance abuse, and other signs of students in distress.
Knowledge of peer education, prevention, health promotion and wellness issues on a university campus.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Skill in public speaking and delivering presentations to individuals and groups.
Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, constituents, and volunteers.
Ability to think critically and make clear, well-reasoned and timely decisions.
Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes an equitable environment.
Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.

FGCU Recreation & Wellness is a department in the Division of Student Success & Enrollment Management. Our mission is to provide state-of-the-art facilities, innovative programs, a gateway to lifelong well-being, and an avenue for student success. We are the recreational home for FGCU, operating 7 facilities across campus, with our newest, the University Recreation & Wellness Center opening in January 2020.
