The Associated Students of CSU, Chico is recruiting for a Program Director for Adventure Outings (Outdoor Recreation). This is a full-time, full-year (2080 hours) exempt position. The starting pay range for this position is $5,858.67/mo to $6,331.58/mo; new hires typically start at the beginning of this range. The anticipated schedule includes 8 hour shifts Monday through Friday, with some evening and weekend hours possible. The schedule is subject to change based on operational needs.

PROGRAM DIRECTOR
ADVENTURE OUTINGS
SUMMARY
The Adventure Outings Program Director provides strategic leadership, management, and vision for Adventure Outings — an outdoor education and recreation program that offers inclusive wilderness experiences, adventure-based learning, and leadership development for the campus community. The Program Director is responsible for the overall administration, fiscal management, risk management, staff development, and program quality of Adventure Outings ensuring that all programs are operated in alignment with the organization’s mission, values, and commitment to environmental stewardship, equity, and safety.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide strategic direction and leadership for Adventure Outings, ensuring alignment with organizational and educational goals.
Oversee the design, implementation, and assessment of outdoor adventure programs, including backpacking, climbing, rafting, kayaking, and other activities ensuring programs offered are consistent with student feedback.
Ensure that all programs reflect best practices in outdoor leadership, education, and environmental sustainability.
Manage logistics for trips and equipment, including scheduling, transportation, permits, and facilities.
Establish, review and enforce program policies, procedures, and practices.
Develop marketing materials in collaboration with the Marketing Department. To include calendars, brochures and other materials.
Design and implement outdoor-based teambuilding experiences for campus programs and departments.
Manage Get Outdoors Fund to ensure program access to students regardless of ability level or barriers to participation.
This is a management/supervisory level position which is held responsible for the performance of both direct and indirect reports. This position recruits, interviews, hires or effectively recommends hiring, trains, schedules, assigns and responsibly directs work, supervises, and manages performance of assigned employees using independent judgment. Issues discipline or effectively recommends discipline for employees up to and including termination as appropriate.
Oversee the Assistant Leader internship program serving as Instructor of Record for the academic course each semester.
Maintain and oversee Adventure Outings’ online registration system.
Supervise the equipment rental center, including staff, budget, policies, and equipment maintenance.
Purchase, maintain, repair, and inventory a wide variety of equipment and vehicles.
Supervise the bike repair shop including staff, budget, policies, equipment maintenance, and bike auctions.
Develop, administer, and monitor the departmental budget to ensure fiscal responsibility, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with organizational policies and goals.
Maintain annual use permits with land management agencies
Write and administer grants.
Train staff in driving vans and towing trailers.
Ensure basic vehicle maintenance and annual inspections.
Collect and maintain accurate participation records. Present to various Boards and management as required meeting established deadlines.
Maintain appropriate risk management and emergency response plans; conduct regular safety audits and staff training. Serve as a liaison to AS Risk Management.
Foster a welcoming environment that encourages participation from historically underrepresented groups in outdoor recreation.
Represent Associated Students and Adventure Outings to the campus and community promoting awareness and participation.
Lead staff trainings, trips, and events as needed.

MINIMUM EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree.
Three (3) years full-time or seasonal/part-time equivalent experience in the development, supervision/management, training and implementation of outdoor recreation programs.
Two (2) years supervisory experience.
Technical competency in at least two (2) of the following skill areas: whitewater rafting and/or kayaking, rock climbing, backpacking, teambuilding/challenge course facilitation.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Degree coursework related to outdoor recreation or recreation administration.
Experience in outdoor recreation and teambuilding programming for campus population.
Industry certifications with AMGA, PCIA, ACA, or similar.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of, or ability to obtain within three months of hire, a current and valid California Class C Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Possession of current Wilderness First Responder and CPR/AED certifications.
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.
