These positions are 12-month positions. Graduate Assistant – Competitive Sports DESCRIPTION: The Graduate Assistant will be responsible for the design, implementation, and management of all Intramural and Club Sport related activities within Valdosta State University Campus Recreation. Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Competitive Sports, the Graduate Assistant serves as a leader and liaison to the Competitive Sports team (made up of Intramural Sports Supervisors, and Intramural Sports Officials). The Graduate Assistant will be responsible for coordinating and developing the schedules of the Competitive Sports Staff. This position is responsible for organizing and partnering with outside entities, and managing relationships to further enhance VSU Campus Recreation’s brand. This position also has responsibilities with student growth and development. RESPONSIBILITIES: - Assist with the coordination and development of all Intramural and Club Sports programs.
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, and scheduling 40+ staff; including 1-2 team leaders
- Develop, organize and implement schedules for Intramural Sports shifts, utilizing the When to Work scheduling system
- Organize, schedule and market Intramural Sports events
- Facilitate training, mentoring and continuing education opportunities for all Intramural Sports staff
- Develop, plan and execute Intramural Sports events
- Work cooperatively with other Campus Recreation staff members and assist with departmental special events
- Serve as a substitute Intramural Sports Supervisor, or Intramural Sports Official, as needed
- Maintain an active presence in all Intramural Sports or Club Sports programs, or events
- Assist in developing & managing wellness programming for faculty, staff, and students
Graduate Assistant- CORE Outdoors DESCRIPTION: The Graduate Assistant of CORE will report to the Coordinator of CORE Outdoors. The Graduate Assistant is responsible for assisting with the administration of CORE which includes: climbing wall, outdoor rental center, challenge course, and outdoor trips. The Graduate Assistant will create a meaningful experience within all parts of the CORE Outdoors and Campus Recreation. RESPONSIBILITIES: - Assist in the planning, marketing, scheduling and implementation of all aspects of the four major areas of CORE Outdoors.
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, evaluate, and retain facilitators, trip leaders, climbing wall, team leaders and program coordinator.
- Develop, review and recommend revisions to all CORE Outdoors policies and procedures.
- Maintain daily office hours, as well as night time hours for classes and weekend supervision of outdoor trips and challenge course programs.
- Manage a team of three to six student assistants, including graphic designer, photographer, videographer, promotions representatives and team leaders
- Assist in developing department-wide student training & workshops
- Assist with coordinating and preparing the department for national, regional and state conferences
- Work cooperatively with other Campus Recreation staff members and assist with departmental special events
- Other duties as assigned
Graduate Assistant – Fitness DESCRIPTION: The Graduate Assistant will be responsible for the design, implementation, and management of all Fitness related activities within Valdosta State University Campus Recreation. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Programming & Staff Development, the Graduate Assistant serves as a leader and liaison to the Fitness team (made up of Weight Room Attendants, Personal Trainers, and Group Fitness Instructors). - Develop, plan and execute Fitness & Wellness events, such as Strongest Blazer, GloGa, etc.)
- Work cooperatively with other Campus Recreation staff members and assist with departmental special events
- Serve as a substitute Group Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer & Weight Room Attendant, as needed
- Maintain an active presence in all fitness programs, events, and with Fitness staff.
- Assist in developing & managing wellness programming for faculty, staff and students
- Manage & develop content for online instructional fitness & wellness portal
- Participate in Campus Wellness Committee and assist with campus-wide wellness events and programming
- Other duties as assigned
Graduate Assistant for Aquatics & Red Cross DESCRIPTION: The Graduate Assistant serves as a leader and liaison to the aquatics staff, American Red Cross Instructor staff, and their associated Team Leaders. This position is responsible for recruiting and training a lifeguard staff, managing the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim and community class offerings, supervising American Red Cross Instructors and overseeing select departmental special events. Current or past American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguarding Instructor/IT, CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor/IT, Water Safety Instructor/IT preferred. RESPONSIBILITIES: - Manage and develop a team of lifeguards, water safety instructors, and American Red Cross Instructors

Graduate Assistant – Facilities & Risk Management DESCRIPTION: The Graduate Assistant will be responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the Student Recreation Center at Valdosta State University. Serving as a leader of the Facility Supervisor staff, this position is responsible for facility policy enforcement, training and maintaining a facility supervisor staff, managing building reservations and overseeing select departmental special events. RESPONSIBILITIES: - Oversee the enforcement of facility rules and regulations; assess and refine building policies and procedures
- Manage and develop a team of facility supervisors
- Assist in developing student-staff trainings, in-services, and skill assessments
- Manage, organize, and provide logistical support for facility reservations
Graduate Assistant for Youth Programs DESCRIPTION: The Graduate Assistant serves as leader of the Youth Programs staff and will assist with the design, marketing, organization, staffing and facilitation of youth programs hosted by the department throughout the year. RESPONSIBILITIES: - Assist with the design, coordination and implementation of youth programming
- To include, but not limited to: summer day camps, after school programming, weekend programs and seasonal break experiences
- Assist with the development of youth program marketing & sponsorship campaigns
- Liaise with youth participants’ parents/guardians, sponsors/donors, VSU & community partners
