The Campus Recreation Graduate Assistant of Facility Operations will work as a member of a team with the Assistant Director, and Coordinators of Facility Operations. This position will work with student facility staff, maintenance staff, and fitness staff to ensure efficient and proper use of the Charles J. Ping Center, the Golf & Tennis Center, Walter Fieldhouse, and Bird Ice Arena. Graduate Assistants will develop transferable and leadership skills by working with a team of Campus Recreation professionals and Graduate Assistant cohort members researching new trends in the field of campus recreation and developing/enforcing policies and procedures.
Learn to Skate and Figure Skating Graduate Assistant
This position is responsible for overseeing the Learn to Skate and Freestyle programs at Bird Arena. Home to the Bobcat Hockey D1 and D2 teams, the Club Synchro team, and several community programs, Bird Ice Arena is an indoor single sheet of ice, owned and operated by Ohio University Campus Recreation. The facility has a 1,200 seat capacity and serves as the home for several skating programs including the Campus Recreation Club Synchro team, Freestyle and private lesson sessions, open to the public Rec Skates, and hosts four six-week sessions of Learn To Skate programming including a winter and spring ice show. The facility is also equipped with a Skate Room that supplies patrons with skate rentals and repairs, a concessions stand, a Pro Shop, and a mezzanine.
Well-Being and Fitness Operations Graduate Assistant
The Graduate Assistant for Well-Being & Fitness Operations plays an essential role in the operation of the Ohio University Department of Campus Recreation. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Well-Being and Fitness and is responsible for assisting the Assistant Director of Well-Being and Fitness in overseeing operations related to the fitness facility space and staff. The Well-Being & Fitness Operations Graduate Assistant oversees fitness floor staffing, conducts scheduled cleaning inspections of the fitness related areas, is responsible for the coordination and scheduling of fitness equipment orientations, and assists in organizing, developing, and implementing fitness related educational programs and special events.
The goal of the position is to involve the Outdoor Pursuits GA in all aspects of the administration of a university outdoor pursuits program, with emphasis on trip programming, challenge course programming, logistics and gear management, and climbing wall management. This is a nine-month appointment beginning July, 2020 (with opportunity to start in June) and requires a commitment of 20 hours / week including office hours. The intention is for the chosen individual to hold this position for two years while they are in graduate school.
The Graduate Assistant will work with the Assistant Director of Competitive Sports to provide leadership, strategic planning, administration and day-to-day operations of intramural and club sports programs within the Department of Campus Recreation. Primary areas of responsibility include supervision of 150 competitive sports student personnel, oversight of intramural programs, advising club sport officers and Club Sports Executive Council, and assisting in the planning of clubs and program budget. In addition, the Graduate Assistant of Competitive Sports is expected to promote and facilitate effective communication and collaboration across all efforts of the department, university and community partners.
Graduate Assistants must be enrolled in an Ohio University graduate program. A tuition waiver is contingent on approval from the academic department.
Additional Salary Information: Summer hourly/training rate of $12.25 will be provided and may be available for university breaks
