Anticipated Opening: Director of Recreation & Wellbeing at the University of Wisconsin
At University Recreation & Wellbeing, we practice what we preach. We work hard. We move fast. We aren’t afraid to fail, and we certainly aren’t afraid to stand out.
This January, we’ll begin a nationwide search for an ambitious and dynamic leader to join us during a pivotal time for our division. With our recent name change and rebranding behind us, we’ve set our sights on opening the Nicholas Recreation Center, a highly-anticipated $87.5M state-of-the-art facility and the first building project of a $236M Master Plan. At the same time, we’ve started to design our second building project of the Plan, a $110M replacement of the current Gymnasium – Natatorium.
As director, you’ll lead a growing team of 50 professional staff members and 500 student employees and report directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Health & Wellbeing within Student Affairs. Day in and day out, we pride ourselves on living our mission, building community, and “leaning yes” to new ideas. We are a tight-knit group with diverse backgrounds committed to removing barriers, building community, and pushing limits.
Grounded in tradition and driven by innovation, UW is a top-ranked institution and a proud member of the Big Ten Conference. Nestled between 15,000 acres of lakes and more than 200 miles of paths and trails, the University and city of Madison seamlessly blend together. We have been named the #1 Best City to Raise a Family, the Fittest City in America, and we’re home to the country’s largest producer-only farmers market (with plenty of cheeses to choose from). With the events and amenities of a big city and the ease and community of a small town, Madison is a special place with a unique vibe.
At University Recreation & Wellbeing, we’re so much more than a building. We’re building a movement. And we’re looking for a visionary to move with us. To learn what it means to be part of our team, we are hosting an online info session on Monday, January 13 at 11am CST. A link to the webinar will be posted on our website in early January. We also ask that you consider filling out this form to receive email updates about the webinar.

About Recreation & Wellbeing at the University of Wisconsin
With more than 40,000 students, exceptional academics, inspiring faculty and alumni, a beautiful campus and a vibrant college scene, UW–Madison is one of the nation’s premier universities.
UW-Madison is the birthplace of the Wisconsin Idea, the principle that education should improve people’s lives beyond the university classroom. We believe the work that’s done here at the UW should help people in the state, the country and around the globe.
UW-Madison offers 160 majors and 4,200 courses. Seventy of our academic programs are ranked in the nation’s top 10, and UW-Madison overall is ranked seventh among public universities.
With 933 acres located on the shores of Lake Mendota, UW-Madison boasts a beautiful campus through all four seasons. The city of Madison (population 220,000) has topped many “best” lists — best place to live and work, best college sports town, one of America’s safest cities, a top green city – and offers a combination of campus and city that together make one of the nation’s liveliest college scenes.
