The University of Florida Department of Recreational Sports is now accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director for Outdoor Recreation. This position is responsible for the oversight of the outdoor recreation programs, facilities and services for the Department of Recreational Sports (RecSports), which includes Lake Wauburg North and South Shores, the UF Outdoor Team Challenge Courses, and the Center for Outdoor Recreation and Education (CORE). This position will have manage the day-to-day operations of a comprehensive outdoor challenge course program (high, low, alpine, outdoor climbing wall); manage facility requests, reservations and rentals; oversee and develop new special events and programs promoting the UFOTCC and Lake Wauburg; administer instructional services and programs; host outside certifications and provide in-house training programs for UFOTCC facilitators; hire, train, schedule, supervise, coach and evaluate processes for Lake Wauburg staff; coordinate all aspects of risk management, maintenance and preventative maintenance procedures and plans, assessment and documentation for Outdoor Recreation; and develop, recommend and oversee the Outdoor Recreation budget.
The minimum requirements for the position are a Master’s degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.
Preferred Skills: Two years of challenge course operations management and program facilitation; certification in challenge course management; knowledge of static belay traversing, dynamic belay traversing and dynamic belayed vertical; understand operational systems for low and high challenge courses an climbing walls; ability to work with minimal supervision, to think laterally and to undertake initiatives; ability to effectively supervise; and is self-motivated, adaptable, a great team player and customer focused.
