The Fitness Graduate Assistant is a member of the Fitness Program in the department of Recreation Services which is responsible for coordinating Fitness Classes, Personal Training, and Specialty Fitness services to the ISU community. The Graduate Assistant general responsibilities will be to assist full time staff in the daily student skill development, program management and operational coordination in both Group Fitness and Personal Training areas.
Specific job duties:
Assist with staff hiring, training, supervising and evaluation of fitness staff
Co-instruct the ACE certification preparation class for Personal Training and/or Group fitness
Assist with incentive programming and promotion of fitness classes, personal training, and small group training
Assist with management and operations of Fitness Programs including client services and fitness class participation
Research and report new fitness and training information for expanding fitness programming
Assist with staff mentoring and skill building clinics in both personal training and group fitness
Assist with any department wide promotional programs
Assist with the collection and reporting of various data information using Microsoft word and excel and Fusion
Teach a minimum of 2 fitness classes weekly and or provides personal training services to a minimum of 2 clients each semester
Must have a current nationally recognized fitness certification in Personal Training or Group Fitness
Must have a minimum of one year of personal training or group fitness experience
CPR/First Aid/AED Certification and Instructor Certification or obtain upon employment

Additional Salary Information:
Graduate assistants with an appointment of one-quarter time or more are assessed resident tuition for each term they have an assistantship.
Students who are on a one-quarter time assistantship or greater and are master's candidates will receive a 50% tuition scholarship award.
Graduate Assistants receive university holidays and single student health insurance coverage which includes a prescription drug plan at no charge. Vacation and sick leave accrual and usage are determined by the supervisor.
Compensation will be approximately $2,050/month, during fall and spring academic terms. The stipend is subject to income tax withholding requirements as payment for work. Student wage employment during summer break is possible. A second year assistantship would be offered depending on job performance and funding availability.
