The Office of Campus Recreation at the University of South Carolina is excited to offer this position within our newly restructured and integrated Sport Programs unit. Yearly, this unit anticipates programming for 25+ intramural sport offerings, 1,100 teams registered, 50+ sport clubs and 7,500 unique participants. With a Sport Programs unit this comprehensive we anticipate ample room for growth, development and leadership. We are also in the design stages and will be opening a 200+ acre recreational field complex to help meet the needs of our ever-growing community and will be conducting major renovations to a current recreation facility. The sport programs coordinator directly manages the intramural sports program and work collaboratively with a fellow sport programs coordinator to oversee the sport clubs program. A high level of cross training will be required. This position focuses on student employment (hiring, training and supervision) and office operations. This position will develop UofSC students to provide opportunities for students to engage in meaningful beyond the classroom experiences.
Primary responsibilities include: • Hire, train, schedule & supervise approximately 115 sport programs student employees. Design & facilitate training sessions with an emphasis on risk management, customer service, critical thinking, facility stewardship and sport-specific officiating knowledge. • Assist in administering the intramural and sport club program based on current trends to provide innovative recreational sports opportunities that meet the needs of the UofSC community • Oversee daily intramural sport office operation. Serve as primary contact person for program software. Manage inventory & facility reservations. • Counsel, mentor, and guide sport club officers and participants. Support in advising the sport club executive board.
Masters degree in Student Services or related field and 1 year related experience, or bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience.
Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
This position requires a variable work schedule. Early mornings, evening & weekend hours will be required. In addition, this position has been designated as essential personnel during inclement/hazardous weather and other emergencies.
