The Assistant Director of Recreational Services, Aquatics and Student Development is a full-time professional position which reports to the Director of Recreational Services. This position is responsible for supervision of Messerly Natatorium, aquatic programming and lifeguarding staff, risk management for the entire department, and supervision of all Rec Center employees. It is a twelve (12) month position.
Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities:
Implements and assesses student learning outcomes through Eagle GROW® program performed each semester.
Develops, implements and runs the fall, spring and summer Recreation Center employee training for approximately 120 students.
Coordinates the interview and selection process for incoming and current students to work for the Recreational Services Department.
Supervises the Facility Managers, Climbing Wall Supervisors, Customer Service Supervisors, Equipment Check-Out Supervisors, Fitness Center Supervisors, field experience students and summer Facilities/Student Development Intern.
Oversees the student run Recreational Services employee organization, Rec Council.
Coordinates participation of multi-institutional studies to gauge learning and preparation of student employees through NIRSA Collegiate Recreation Employability Study.
Works directly with the Sport Management program on providing field experiences and other collaborations.
Oversees operations, including incentives, community building, budgeting, and maintenance.
Encourage collaboration with other departments in the division through efficient cross trainings, partnerships, speakers, and other events.
Has knowledge of and serves as departmental point-of-contact in all compliance-related affairs (Clery Act, Title IX, FERPA, etc.); incorporates into student employee trainings.
Interviews, hires, trains, supervises, schedules, evaluates and disciplines lifeguards, Aquatic Manager, and Learn-to-Swim instructor staff.
Provides safety education and customer service to the pool users and staff.
Implements and assists in the development and review of policies and procedures, employee manual, and student job descriptions annually.
Directs, manages, budgets and evaluates the Learn-to-Swim program.
Creates and publicizes aquatic programs and events.
Schedules American Red Cross Lifeguarding courses for student employees, campus, and community upon request.
Acts as a liaison with the Facility Management and Planning staff.
Oversees and maintains the maintenance and operations of the aquatic facility.
Works with and maintains exiting relationships with outside pool contractors.
Master's degree within sport management, recreation, or a related field.
Minimum of two (2) years working experience within higher education recreation services or related field.
CPO/ AFO Aquatic Certification is required.
Must be a certified instructor in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR, AED American Red Cross CPR/First Aid Certified.
Experience supervising and training student employees in facility operations.
Must be knowledgeable of Clery Act, Title IX, FERPA, etc. and be able to communicate these to student employees.
Requires long hours spent at desk completing paperwork as well as walking and supervising activities in Rec Center.
Ability to lift and move equipment up to 45 lbs. in fitness center.
