Provides direct supervision and oversight to all Group Fitness Instructors, Personal Trainers, and Fitness Assessment Technicians. Managing work assignments and professional development trainings to develop efficient strategies to enhance overall student educational fitness and wellness programming and performance. Chairing the hiring, interviewing, and training processes.
Provides direct supervision and oversight to all Facility Leads, Front Desk Attendants, and Facility Attendants. Assisting students in the implementation of building procedures and daily operations. Chairing the hiring, interviewing, and training processes. Managing work assignments and professional development opportunities to enhance overall student experience in recreation center.
Leads the development, implementation and oversight of a wide variety of fitness and wellness programs, (e.g. physical, nutritional, social, emotional, and educational) for group fitness, wellness education, personal training, fitness assessments, instructional programming, workshops, seminars, special events (5K, Health & Wellness Fair, Exercise is Medicine), and skill development and assessment.
Provides programming schedules and other marketable information to enhance and communicate activities and programs throughout campus. Manages the publicity and marketing for all fitness and wellness events and employee recruitment across campus. Responsible for assigning student staff assisting with publicity and marketing efforts.
Develops and initiates short-term and long-term goals. Represents the director at a variety of committees and meetings. Acts in such a manner as to foster strong collegial relationships in Student Affairs and throughout the campus. On behalf of the director also enforces participant disciplinary issues, crisis and emergency intervention issues within recreation center, and with members of the external community.
Maintains budgeted allowances for Group Fitness operations, Personal Training operations, Special Events operations and Wellness programming operations.
Responsible for equipment purchasing and trades within the facility. Review competitors and research the best equipment for our needs. Manage the equipment repair logs and working with all appropriate vendors.
Represents the department at recruitment activities, (e.g. Preview Days, Orientations).
Assists with Outdoor Adventures and Special Events programming as needed.
Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Two years of professional experience in a fitness/wellness position.
Current certification/licensure from a nationally recognized professional organization such as: National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), American Council on Exercise (ACE), Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) or similar license/certification for Group Fitness Instructor and/or Personal Trainer.
Experience in the development and implementation of group fitness and personal training programs.
*Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1 year) of work experience.
-Master's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology or closely related field.
-Experience teaching group fitness classes and training fitness instructors. Graduate assistantship experience is acceptable.
-Experience hiring, training, evaluating and supervising employees. Experience with student employees is a plus.
-Familiar with event planning and implementation along with strong organizational skills.
-Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
-Familiarity with a broad range of fitness equipment (cardio, functional fitness, strength).
-Experience working in a campus recreation setting.
