GENERAL INFORMATION: Under the direction and supervision of the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator, this position is responsible for the coordination and management of the Campus Recreation personal training program, providing day-to-day supervision and direction to over (30) personal trainers. Program staff facilitate one-on-one and small group training sessions as well as intentional programming for university faculty, staff and student populations. A key focus for this position will be to create a culture that encourages positive holistic wellness habits, with special programming attention given to our freshmen and on-campus community.
Recruits, hires, trains, supervises and evaluates a qualified personal training staff of (30+). Provides staff assignment and oversight for all personal training related programs, including: small group, buddy, individual, Design Me a Workout.
Responsible for developing and increasing revenue generating programming such as FAST Fitness, Fitness on Demand, Functional Fitness.
Serves as primary contact and program collaborator with various campus departments and programs; including: Employee Assistance & Wellness (EAW), Health Promotions (HP), and Fit 100.
Responsible for developing and executing a holistic Prescription Fitness(RxFit) program in collaboration with multiple health service programs on campus. Program design to include, but is not limited to: completing health screenings, collecting exercise history, and individualized goal setting in order to create a unique experience for each client.
Coordinates and leads instruction of the ACE Personal Trainer Preparation Course for (30) students each semester.
Teaches (1-2) Campus Recreation group exercise classes and/or F.I.T. classes for the NAU Health Sciences department, as schedule permits.
Ensures implementation of a comprehensive risk management plan; to include, but not limited to: professional and student staff training, and maintaining certifications and trainings as required by industry best practice standards.
Prepares and maintains accurate program and staff records, tracks program data and reports key performance indicators (KPI’s) to the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator and department leadership.
Coordinates and manages the fitness and personal training program’s equipment maintenance and replacement plan; including: cleaning/disinfecting, ordering, and tracking inventory.
Represents Campus Recreation at various university programs and events; such as tabling at expos and service fairs, Family and Homecoming weekends, NAU New Student and New Employee Orientations.
Provides accurate and timely communications to department staff, direct supervisor and Campus Recreation leadership pertaining to department’s personal training programs and services.
Creates and maintains an inclusive and safe environment to support a culturally rich and diverse staff and campus community.
Provides back-up assistance, in absence of supervisor, to assist with Group Exercise program.
Other duties as assigned that support division and departmental vision, objectives and goals.

Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Recreation, Health Promotion, or related field.
Minimum two (2) years of progressively responsible work experience in a personal training setting.
Must have at least one (1) current nationally recognized certification in personal training, such as ACSM, AFAA, or ACE.
Certified American Red Cross Professional Rescuer required, and Instructor certification preferred, or will obtain in the first 60 days of employment.
Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field.
Two years of staff supervision experience, including student staff populations.
Demonstrated experience with program development, marketing, financial management, safety and risk management.
Experience with collaborative programming and the ability to form positive relationships.
Both Group Fitness and Personal Training certifications.
Specialty training certifications in nutrition and/or health coaching.
