The Assistant Director, Facility Operations and Member Services is responsible for managing daily operations of the Leonard J. Kaplan Center for Wellness, developing policies and procedures for staff and patrons, facilitating training and development opportunities, and plays an essential role in risk management and safety education across the department. The Assistant Director directs all needs for facility operations and member services, including staffing, welcome desk operations, special events, customer service delivery, Pro Shop retail sales, equipment checkout, guest pass program, budget, maintenance, and assessment. This person serves on the department Management Team, providing leadership to Coordinators and Graduate Assistants, and assisting with strategic planning efforts and goal-setting for the department. This position will have direct supervision of full-time professional staff, graduate assistants and 40+ student staff.
Key responsibilities for the position include:
Assist with the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of student staff with a focus on customer service, facility operations, and risk management.
Responsible for short- and long-range planning for designated units. Establish and implement goals and objectives for facility operations.
Manage program budget which includes staff wages, operating expenses and revenue generation.
Develop and administer procedures related to systems control, including but not limited to the key management system, member management software, event management software, and facility access.
Develop and maintain working relationships with campus departments, academic units, and external vendors to support university initiatives.
Qualifications: Master’s degree; Minimum of three years of demonstrated experience in recreation facilities management or programming; Direct experience hiring, training, and supervising student employees; Strong communication skills, both oral and written; Strong commitment to the development of students to provide leadership training, support academic success, and professional development; Direct budget management experience; Current certification as American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer (or ability to obtain within first 60 days of hire); Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours in addition to regular University hours.
