Georgia State University, Department of Recreational Services, is searching for an outstanding candidate to fill the role of Associate Director, Programs.
The Associate Director for Recreation Programs is directly responsible for all programming within the Department of Recreational Services at Georgia State University. This position has direct supervision of (7) full-time professional staff (2 Assistant Directors and 5 Coordinators) overseeing all program areas including Aquatics, Fitness, Instructional Clinics, Intramurals, Sport Clubs, and Outdoor Recreation. The selected candidate will provide direct leadership in the development of a coordinated, diverse, high-quality program including the creation and implementation of new and/or special events. Manage, support, and evaluate staff in each program area. Indirectly supervise graduate assistants and student assistants in all program areas. Coordinate all departmental annual special events and co-sponsored events throughout the year. Assist Director in departmental planning. Assist staff with programming when needed. Ensure that program marketing is coordinated with the Marketing Specialist. Coordinate department program brochure content (Recreation Rap-Up) each semester including edit dates, organization of program materials, facility hours, and membership information. Works with Marketing Specialist, and all staff to ensure brochure is prepared for layout and printing. Assist with budget management of all areas. Work collaboratively and/or partner with other student and university organizations as well as academic departments including Nutrition, Psychology, and Kinesiology and Health.
This position may require weekend and evening hours.

Minimum Hiring Standards:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience; or a combination of training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Recreation, Sports Administration, or related field. 7 to 10 years of progressive experience in a collegiate recreation setting. Full time professional staff supervision and evidence of student development activity (including hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, payroll, and evaluation). Knowledge of liability issues as they apply to facilities, programs, and equipment. NIRSA Registered Collegiate Recreational Sports Professional or NIRSA Certified Recreational Sports Specialist.

The purpose of the Department of Recreational Services is to promote healthy lifestyles through exceptional recreational programs, services, and facilities. On the Atlanta campus, Recreational Services is housed in the 161,000 square foot Student Recreation Center (SRC). Our two off-campus sites are also managed by the department; Panthersville Recreation Complex, an outdoor lighted multipurpose athletic field area and the Indian Creek Recreation Area which includes the Lodge, Challenge Course, Outpost, an outdoor pool, event lawn, and sand volleyball court. Recreational Services also provides programs at services at our 4 Perimeter locations of Clarkston, Decatur, Newton and Dunwoody.
