Missouri State University - Campus Recreation has 4 graduate assistant openings to start in Fall 2025. Graduate assistant positions include a full tuition waiver and a stipend (see below).

Graduate Assistant – Facilities and Risk Management
Essential Functions
Assist with the development of training materials and facilitate training and educational sessions with a focus on customer service and risk management needs for all FRC staff.
Assist with the hiring, training, scheduling and supervision of Building Managers, Red Cross Instructors, Lifeguards, and Head Lifeguards.
Coordinate and assess risk management protocols of Campus Recreation.
Maintain complete records for entire Campus Recreation department including audits, course records and other related documents.
Coordinate, with the assistance of the Assistant Director- Facilities & Risk Management, on American Red Cross courses, risk audits and safety audits, daily schedule monitoring and follow-up, communication with instructors and Campus Recreation departmental staff, and providing the utmost customer service to patrons.
Evaluate and maintain student staff training and extensive knowledge of Risk Management in the building.
Support the Assistant Director-Aquatics & Risk Management with set-up of special events and Aquatics or Risk Management trainings and courses, as needed.
Responding to emergency situations in accordance with established methods and procedures.
Submit work orders in a timely manner for any repairs needed to the pool or other equipment.
Performing water quality tests for the pool and spa using a test kit.
Adding chemicals to the pool and/or spa, when necessary, if trained to do so.
Assist in maintaining accurate payroll records for student staff.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Graduate Assistant – Fitness and Wellness
Essential Functions
Coordinate Campus Recreation wellness and fitness programs, including advertisement, registration, scheduling, and program evaluation.
Assist with recruitment, hiring, supervision, and evaluating of group exercise (BearFit) instructors, personal trainers and fitness attendants.
Provide practical training and regular meetings, both group and one-on-one, with BearFit group fitness instructors, personal trainers, and fitness attendants.
Prepare contracts and provide prompt payment to wellness instructors at the conclusion of sessions.
Maintain complete and accurate organized records for Campus Recreation wellness and fitness programs including contracts, licenses and credentialing, attendance logs, statistics, and other related documents.
Coordinate, with the assistance of the Assistant Director – Fitness and Wellness, personal training appointments, daily schedule monitoring and follow-up, communication with trainers, including providing the utmost customer service to patrons.
Evaluate and maintain personal training assessment space and three studio operations for customer service, member experience, and risk management.
Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment for the Foster Recreation Center fitness and wellness areas.
Support the Assistant Director – Fitness and Wellness with set-up of special events as needed.
Assist with other duties assigned.
Graduate Assistant – Recreational Sports
Essential Functions
Assist in coordinating recreational sports leagues and special events including advertising, promotions, registration, paperwork, and scheduling for club sports and intramural sports.
Assure the accuracy of information regarding recreational sports programming on the web and in print materials.
Assist with hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising Recreational Sports Student Supervisors and Sports Officials.
Assist with the development of training materials and lead training and educational sessions with a focus on customer service and risk management needs for all recreational sport student team members.
Assist with follow-up regarding recreational sport participant disciplinary concerns, protests, and disputes.
Maintain inventory of recreational sport equipment including staff apparel and game day equipment.
Address concerns and needs with the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation - Recreational Sports.
Provide prompt, daily feedback to recreational sport student employees and assist in evaluations of sports officials and supervisors.
Maintain accurate statistics and evaluations for all recreational sports activities.
Incorporate participant feedback and event evaluation feedback in future recreational sport programming and goals.
Assist with other duties as assigned.
Graduate Assistant – Outdoor Adventures
Essential Functions
Assist in maintaining a friendly, safe, and inviting environment for all Outdoor Adventures (OA) patrons.
Assist with the development of training materials and facilitate training and educational sessions.
Lead outdoor trips and staff training trips.
Hire, train, and supervise Outdoor Adventures student staff.
Organize and lead staff meetings for Outdoor Adventure student staff.
Coordinate certification classes and workshops.
Evaluate and provide regular performance feedback for OA staff.
Assist with the planning of all risk management materials.
Maintain accurate and complete records for OA programs.
Assess and alter OA programs and facilities regularly.
Assist in maintaining OA student staff payroll records accurately and promptly.
Maintain the inventory of climbing wall equipment, trip equipment, and rental equipment.
Facilitate marketing materials for all OA programs.
Assist with other duties assigned.

To be eligible for a graduate assistantship, you must:
Be admitted to a graduate program at Missouri State
Hold a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0; an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 in your last 60 hours; or a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on 9 or more hours of your most recent graduate course work
