University of Pittsburgh Campus Recreation continues to expand our team! The Campus Recreation Competitive & Recreational Program Coordinator will play a vital role in preparing for our new 270,000 square foot, 9-story recreation and wellness center currently under construction. This facility is designed as a transformative space in the heart of campus serving as the intersection of well-being for the Pitt community, and houses Campus Recreation and elements of Student Health Services and University Counseling Center. A key feature of this new Campus Recreation & Wellness Center is the competitive and recreational esports gaming space, and this coordinator will have an instrumental role in developing the esports facility and program.
The Campus Recreation Competitive & Recreational Program Coordinator is responsible for all facets of developing, administering, organizing, marketing, and assessing competitive and recreational programs leading a comprehensive annual calendar of diverse activities that reflect the needs, interests, and desires of the Pitt community. Program oversight includes club sports, esports facility and programs, along with support of department programs such as intramurals and campus-wide events. The core functions include personnel management and development; program leadership and management (program operations, assessment, safety and risk management, esports facility and program leadership; facility scheduling, and equipment maintenance, replacement, and repair); and administration, aligning functions, programs, and work environment with equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility strategies.
Club Sports responsibilities encompass ground level leadership and guidance for over 50 club sports with the primary focus of providing guidance and creating connections through structured sports and events; supporting club officers in the coordination of facility needs, club administration, risk management and student development; providing leadership and support to athletic training services; monitoring and advising club sports identity and marketing efforts ensuring compliance with department, division, and university branding guidelines; and conducting spot audits for policy compliance. Intramural responsibilities involve providing administrative and staff support during peak-season programming, special events, and tournaments, as well as sharing leadership responsibilities of the program when necessary.
The Competitive & Recreational Program Coordinator will share strategic leadership in developing the new esports facility and program, and will also serve as the primary contact for supporting day-to-operations to create high-quality student experiences. Program examples include leagues, special events such as tournaments, and summer camps.
This position requires baccalaureate credentials and/or equivalent education and independent experience. Prior experience participating in and/or leading esports programming is preferred; knowledge of esports industry, various gaming platforms, recruitment, rules, and regulations, as well as related hardware and software also preferred.
