The Campus Recreation department at the University of Nebraska at Kearney has graduate assistant openings for Fall 2023. Graduate assistant positions include a full tuition remission and stipend.
Fall 2023 - Student Development & Facility Operations (1), Fitness & Wellness Programs (1) & Sport Programs (1)
COMPENSATION: Stipend of $11,000 for 9 months and potential options for summer positions. Full tuition waiver for in or out of state residents (University fees are not covered). We also offer travel assistance to professional conferences and partial medical insurance coverage.
Campus Rec Graduate Assistants:
Campus Rec Graduate Assistants perform a variety of duties to assist the daily operations and management of all Campus Recreation programs and facilities. Primary responsibilities include providing leadership to support employee training and professional development to the student staff and assist in the planning of Campus Rec programs, events and other initiatives.
Student Development & Facility Operations GA Job Duties
• Provide assistance in the supervision and daily operations of Campus Recreation facilities • Supervise Wellness Center staff; include recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating • Develop and conduct student staff trainings and monthly meetings • Develop and execute a series of audits as it pertains to customer service and policy violations • Work with the Assistant Director to fully utilize Fusion & W2W scheduling software in daily operations • Develop important communication tools for staff as well as members and guests to ensure that information pertaining to facility hours, facility updates, events, outside reservations, and departmental activities is disseminated accurately • Assist in the coordination of facility reservations and events for internal programming, University affiliated organizations, and other non-affiliated entities. • Complete statistical reports regarding daily usage of facility, and accidents and incidents in the facility • Oversee and manage the equipment check-out operations • Conduct facility inspections to identify facility maintenance and safety concerns and repair where able • Assist in the oversight of fitness floor inventory and repair and replacement plan • Review and update policies and procedures for day-to-day operations of facilities • Uphold risk management standards that include obtaining appropriate certifications, updating documentation, and instructing safety courses and trainings • Special projects and other duties as assigned
Fitness & Wellness Programs GA Job Duties
Provide assistance in the supervision and daily operations of Campus Recreation facilities • Assist the design, implementation, management and evaluation of fitness programming • Teach group fitness classes
Assist supervision of Wellness Center staff; include recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating • Assist with student staff trainings and monthly meetings • Complete statistical reports regarding daily usage of facility, and accidents and incidents in the facility • Assist in the oversight of fitness floor inventory and repair and replacement plan • Review and update policies and procedures for day-to-day operations of facilities • Uphold risk management standards that include obtaining appropriate certifications, updating documentation, and instructing safety courses and trainings • Special projects and other duties as assigned
Sport Programs GA Job Duties
Assist the Assistant Director and Sport Programs Coordinator with the management of a comprehensive intramural sports program.
Assist with officials’ clinics, training, and evaluation for major sports including flag football, volleyball, soccer, basketball and softball.
Perform administrative functions for the intramural program. Examples include planning, scheduling, performing assessments and evaluations, holding disciplinary meetings with participants, etc.
Assist in league and tournament scheduling and management; take the lead in planning and managing special leagues and tournaments.
Assist in recruiting, training, evaluation, and supervision of undergraduate student workers who perform as officials & supervisors.
Assist with program evaluation, revision and implementation of all rules and policies.
Execute special events and other initiatives with the intramural program.
Work with campus partners to grow intramural presence on campus.
Assist with sport club trainings and officer meetings.
Attend club sport events and perform practice check-ins.
Bachelor’s degree; 1-3 years’ experience in recreation, athletics, fitness or related areas ; Admittance into a graduate program at UNK; excellent written and oral communication skills; exceptional team focus with the ability to multitask; ability to troubleshoot and problem solve issues as they arise; proficiency with Microsoft office.
Preferred Qualifications:
1-3 years’ experience in a Campus Recreation setting; Experience with staff supervision and development; ; Experience coordinating programs and events; Familiarity with Fusion and W2W software
Fitness GA: Current, nationally accredited group fitness instructor/personal training certifications (NETA, ACE, NASM, ACSM, CSCS, AFAA, Yoga Alliance, etc.). Experience in leading group exercise and wellness programs.
