Dept Marketing Statement The Department of Athletics & Recreation at University of California, Santa Cruz serves a student population of approximately 19,000 students and more than 3,500 faculty and staff. Programs offered include 15 NCAA DIII sports including tennis, soccer, basketball, volleyball, track & field, cross country, swimming & diving, and golf serving over 330 student-athletes. Physical Education (PE) courses offer students an opportunity to learn and improve skills progressively in a variety of activities while gaining knowledge about the relationship between physical activity and wellness.
The department boasts an Intramural program serving more than 2,000 unique participants among the University's ten Colleges. Over 36 Sport Club organizations engage over 1,200 active participants in competitive activity. The Department of Athletics & Recreation also offers a wide variety of recreational programming and opportunities including aquatics, fitness, group exercise, boating and a variety of outdoor adventure outings and trips. Job Duties 30%: Independently applies techically advanced intercollegiate athletics and recreation professional concepts, policies and procedures in facility and mainteance area of athletic and rececration administration.
30%: Oversees all administrative and operational aspects of a highly complex intercollegiate athletics & recreation program as it realtes to facilities and mainteance, equipment, and game day management. Has full accountability for inventory, storage, budget and maintenance of sports equipment, facilities and other athletics and recreation operational activities.
20%: Has overall responsibility for equipment, facilities and budget for a large operational program. Including accountability for inventory, storage, budget and maintenance of sports equipment, facilities and other athletic and recreational operational activities. In patnership with the Associate Director of Facilities and Mainteance, conducts regular periodic rounds to inspect facilities and takes appropriate action as required. Purchases supplies and supervises small-scale department renovation projects.
10%: Serves as back up to the Associate Director of Facilities and Mainteance, so may work with management to coordinate projects, oversee access control, have authority to issue keys, act as the building coordinator for emergency/disaster preparedness, and be the department respresentative for facilities projects.
5%: As the department's technical leader for facilities and mainteance, equipment and game day operations, provides guidance and training to others, including staff and students regarding athletics and receration activities.
5%: Proposes revised standard operating procedures and guidelines for facilities and mainteance, equipment and game day operations.
Education: Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Advanced knowledge of program activity and best practices.
Problem-solving skills, creative thinking skills, and the ability to make sound decisions.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
Proficiency in the use of computer applications relevant to job duties.
Ability to multi-task and work quickly and accurately with frequent interruptions.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, and work as part of a diverse team.
Prior experience working in a collegiate athletic department or equivalent setting.
Fitness facility management experience.
Demonstrated fiscal management abilities.
Ability to listen effectively and deliver highly effective customer service.
