The Membership Services Coordinator is responsible for the hiring and training of entry-level student staff within Membership Services and helping to manage the daily operations of the member services area. In addition to the daily operations, they will assist and serve as the main point of customer contact when on duty. This position is 40 hours per week and reports to the Assistant Director of Member Services and Administration.
Membership Management & Administration
Interview, hire, train, schedule, and supervise student employees in member services.
Process, maintain, and update membership applications and cancellations.
Provide customer services assistance to all patrons of the Student Recreation Facility.
Assist in the student hiring process for the department
Assist in any emergencies that occur in the Student Recreation Facility.
Assist in coordinating training sessions to ensure staff is certified in required areas.
Assist in coordinating development workshops.
Relieves and acts on behalf of management during absences. Gives general supervision to student employees.
Be available to employees for advice and direction
Represents management to guests, patrons, students and tenants. This includes interacting with each to ensure all of their needs are met or taking notes of any concerns that arise.
Partners with management to identify and create building operational policies. This includes interpreting and enforcing building policies and helping update annual policies such as evacuation and emergency steps, etc.
Completes daily reports and checks as directed (e., equipment/furniture/supply inventories, etc.)
Job Knowledge & Skills, Education, Experience
Solid knowledge of MS Office applications.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent management, leadership, and customer services skills.
Interpret and apply university Campus Recreation and UIC rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
Establish programmatic goals, facilitate change, and implement innovative programs and services
Oversee the work of others
Coordinate the timely completion of multiple tasks
Work varying hours including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends

1. Any one of the following, from the categories below:
A) Master’s degree in a field relevant to the position (e.g., Kinesiology, Sports Management, Exercise Science, Recreation, or closely related field) OR B) Final semester or completed Graduate Assistantship with campus recreation or similar department performing duties for two (2) academic years consistent in area of specialization inherent to the position. * OR C) Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the position (e.g., Kinesiology, Sports Management, Exercise Science, Recreation, or closely related field AND One (1) year (12 months) of work experience in the promotion, design, development, and/or administration of recreational programs. OR D) 4 years (48 months) of work experience in promotion, design, development, and/or administration of recreational programs, intercollegiate athletics, campus recreation, park district or similar organization that provides similar program.
2. Demonstrated experience in the delivery of outdoor programming and/or operation of adventure facilities (eg: indoor rock climbing wall, high/low ropes courses, etc.).
*Note: Students in the final semester of a Master’s Degree program, may be allowed to complete a credential examination and will receive full consideration, including being interviewed. An offer may be extended with understanding that proof of degree based on institution is provided to the employing institution Human Resources Office at least two weeks before the proposed start date.
**Note: Newly hired employees may be required to obtain and/or maintain certifications in American Red Cross, CPR/AED/First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens and similar certifications.
