Assistant Director of Ice Hockey Player Development will directly oversee Goggin’s Learn to Play, 8U/10U house league programs, and Goggin’s Adult hockey lessons. They will also be responsible for the skill development of all Jr. RedHawks players from Beginners through High School. Assistant Director of Ice Hockey will direct youth hockey tournaments, as assigned, and will collaborate in the development of strategic planning to increase revenue for Goggin Ice Center through creation of new programming and new memberships. Assistant Director of Ice Hockey Player Development may coach a youth or ACHA team and act as Miami’s representative at regional and national ice hockey events. Position reports to the Director of Ice Hockey and works closely with Sr. Director of Goggin Ice Center and other management team members.
Ability to make independent decisions. Must be reliable, have strong communication skills, and provide excellent customer service. Must be familiar with USA Hockey rules, certification, and guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Required to perform duties with limited supervision and will be required to make significant independent decisions. • Assist in the development and enforcement of policies and procedures for all hockey related programming with emphasis on risk management. • Assist Sr. Director of Goggin Ice Center and Assistant Director for Building Operations in Varsity Ice Hockey game day preparations and oversight as assigned. • Direct, manage, and/or supervise Goggin Ice Center special events including, but not limited to, ice hockey tournaments as assigned. • Serve as Associate Director of Miami’s Summer Ice Hockey Camp Management Team, which includes on ice coaching, scheduling, and administrative work. • Act as advisor and/or coach for one or two of Miami’ ACHA teams • Direct the training, development, and supervision of 20-30 Jr. RedHawks House and Beginner hockey coaches • Direct the daily development of lesson/practice plans with an emphasis on player development for Miami Youth Hockey programs. • Assistant Director of Player Development leads, plans, and implements the development plan for all Jr. RedHawks players based on age-specific USA Hockey guidelines. • Act as Manager on Duty, as assigned, for facility coverage, including opening/closing the building, along with a variety of other duties associated with the Miami Student Programs, Ice Skating, and Ice Hockey. • Direct the marketing of Goggin Ice Center’s Learn to Play Hockey Program, 8U/10U House leagues, and Basic Adult Development hockey program • Conduct daily safety assessments of facilities, vehicles and equipment and take appropriate action. • Establish working relationships with individuals, other University departments, agencies, and groups that further enhance the mission of Goggin Ice Center. • Assist in development of strategic planning with an emphasis on revenue growth, new programs, and risk management. • Completes other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities • Direct and functional supervision of 1-2 full time benefit-eligible staff and 20-30 temporary or volunteer staff with a total equivalent of 7-8 full-time employees.
• Experience in USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM) • Bachelor’s Degree or 3 years’ experience in ice-related sports and activities. • Experience as an ice hockey instructor • Employment for this position is contingent upon providing a set of fingerprint impressions and satisfactorily completing a criminal records check. • USA Hockey coaching certification or ability to become certified. • Current CPR and 1st aid training certification or ability to become certified
