Job Description Overview
Reporting to the Director of Campus Recreation, the Coordinator of Fitness & Wellness is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive fitness program that includes scheduling a comprehensive group fitness class schedule, prescription fitness/personal training services, and creates and directs fitness/wellness special events that are focused on student wellbeing.
Develops and implements a comprehensive fitness/wellness program that includes in-person and virtual group fitness classes, personal training, and fitness/wellness special events.
Hires, supervises, evaluates, and mentors undergraduate student workers and contracted employees working for the fitness program
Collaborates with internal program areas and campus partners to create special events and programming that are focused on student wellness; serves on University wellness work team and student wellness subcommittee.
Provides fiscal oversight to program area budget for fitness and wellness
Collects and maintains accurate and confidential documentation and emergency contact information of personal training clients
Trains direct reports in proper risk management practices and emergency response and ensures accident/incident reports are completed; maintains documentation related to all accident/incidents.
Ensures all direct reports possess Departmental required certifications required of their position; assists with department risk management training.
Completes inventory and purchasing of group fitness related equipment within departmental and University guidelines.
Works with the Associate Director to oversee repair & replace plan for group fitness equipment and assists in oversight of annual facility maintenance needs for four (4) dedicated group fitness studio spaces
Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum of one (1) year in Campus Recreation working in fitness programming; graduate assistant experience accepted. American Red Cross CPR/ AED/First Aid certification required or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment. Certification as a group fitness instructor and/or personal training from a prominent agency (ACE, ACSM, AFFA, NASM) required. Demonstrated ability and certification to teach one (1) group fitness class from the following: yoga, pilates, cycle, zumba, or barre is required.
Master’s degree in Recreation, Kinesiology, Sports Management, or related field preferred. Previous experience in certifying and training group fitness instructors preferred.
Employer will assist with relocation costs.
