Under supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, the Lifeguard is responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety of patrons using the aquatic facilities, as well as enforcing rules and regulations regarding pool use. Position completes routine and complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge and/or be responsible for assisting in the oversight of a critical operation, project or service.
The Student Recreation Center is a comprehensive campus recreation center that offers a diverse range of recreational programs and services to the CSUN community.
Maintain constant surveillance of members in the facility; act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency;
Enforce rules and regulations regarding pool use
Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
Present professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service
Perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility
Prepare and maintain appropriate activity reports
Perform other related duties as assigned
Equivalent to graduation from high school and/or a technical/vocational program.
Experience and Certifications:
American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification
American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification
American Red Cross First Aid for Lifeguards
Must be able to swim 300 yards continuously using both front crawl and breast stroke
Must be able to swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10-pound object and remove it from the pool within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Must attend required Student Recreation Center and USU employee orientation and trainings as well as department specific trainings and meetings
Advanced First Aid Certification (Title 22, EMR, EMT) Preferred

This position is employed through University Student Union (USU).
The anticipated hiring range is $15.40 - $16.50 per hour.
HOURS: Part-time, up to 28 hours per week
TEMPORARY: Temporary emergency 6 months appointment, may be renewed.

Additional Salary Information: Summer 2021 hiring range will be $18.40 - $19.50 per hour. These summer wages are in effect June 2021 through August 2021. After that, the hourly wage will be $15.40 - $16.50 per hour.
