Butler University is seeking an Assistant Director to help lead and support a growing and innovative Fitness program based on the BU|BeWell experience framework and lead marketing efforts for the Office of Recreation & Wellness and assist with efforts for the Department of Health & Recreation. This includes managing a part time marketing team, social media campaigns, print & digital assets, and provide overall strategy. The dynamic Fitness program includes personal training, group fitness, and virtual programs and resources. This position provides oversight of the HRC Fitness equipment, maintenance, purchases, develops and maintains faculty/staff relationships for the promotion and improvement of health & wellbeing. Direct Reports consist of approximately 35-part time and student employees. This position will strive to foster an inclusive environment that seeks to serve a diverse campus community through actively developing and implementing strategies and programs to engage under-represented populations. The position reports to the Associate Director of Fitness & Wellness.
Primary Responsibilities (80%):
Advance BU|BeWell through programs and services that promote a holistic experience for participants
Implement diversity and inclusion initiatives into program areas
Conduct faculty/staff fitness assessments, HRC orientations and consultations for exercise prescription
Set policies and procedures, plan meetings, implement program changes, conduct evaluations and updates for the personal training staff
Coordinate trainer-client partnerships
Instruct the annual Personal Trainer In-House Certification Program (fall) and ACE Personal Training Exam Preparation Course (spring).
Design, implement and evaluate new specialty fitness floor programs as well as pre- established programs. Collaborate with entities on campus to design individualized presentations for students, faculty and staff.
Design, implement, maintain, and evaluate virtual programming and resources for the entire Butler community.
Develop a faculty/staff outreach program to increase awareness of HRC faculty/staff offerings and educate employees about physical fitness including presentations at various departmental, organizational, individual, and campus-wide meetings and events.
Assist, as needed in the management of the group fitness staff and programs; assist, as needed in the maintenance of all fitness equipment including safety, repairs, new purchases, and industry standards.
Other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities (20%)
Coordinate the Office of Recreation & Wellness marketing efforts including BUBeWell along with assisting with efforts for the Department of Health & Recreation
Develop and maintain overall strategy
Manage part time marketing staff
Plan, implement, monitor social media for all accounts under the Office of Recreation & Wellness
Manage print and digital assets
Develops a comprehensive package of marketing and promotional efforts.
Provide for effective customer service delivery, management of associated risks and liability, evaluation and development of programs, including monitoring and updating of policies and procedures.
Bachelor’s Degree in related field required
Master’s Degree Preferred
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion through programming, training/workshops or mentoring.
2-3 years of relevant work experience
Certified Personal Trainer required
American Red Cross 1st Aid & CPR certified required
Ability to work nights and weekends
Certified Wellness Professional Preferred
Ability to effectively work with multiple constituencies, organize and manage tasks
