The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Campus Recreation department is seeking motivated, organized individuals who can work in a diverse campus environment. Interns are members of the professional staff and are expected to be leaders in their respective areas. Each position will offer hands-on experience and learning. Internship Positions are currently available in the following areas:
Assist the Assistant Director and Coordinator of Fitness and Wellness with the oversight of a comprehensive fitness program and manage aspects of fitness operations including; staff scheduling, program development, equipment inventory, strategic planning, and staff evaluations
Assist with the hiring, training, and development of approximately 20 Personal Trainers, 60 Group Fitness Instructors, and 10 Group Training Coaches.
Assist with the instruction of the ACE Group Fitness Instructor and NASM Personal Training programs
Plan and lead monthly in-service meetings/trainings for Group Fitness Instructors, Personal Trainers, and Group Training Coaches
Manage all Personal Training sales and the client pairing process
Contribute to the fitness program by teaching or training at least 1 class/client per semester
Plan and executive events and programs related to fitness and wellness, including health and wellness fairs and educational workshops
Coordinate fitness and wellness outreach programs for the University community
Conduct regular program assessments to determine satisfaction levels, areas of improvement and measure learning outcomes for patrons
Research and apply current knowledge of fitness and wellness programming best practices
Organize and maintain employee information, disciplinary actions etc
Assist with the instruction of CPR/AED trainings for student staff
Assist with the administration and management of all Carolina Adventures activities including Expeditions, Challenge Course, and Climbing programs.
Assist with hiring, supervision, and evaluation of Carolina Adventures student staff.
Schedule student employees for programs and events.
Assist with development and implementation of risk management policies and procedures for all Carolina Adventures programs.
Assist Expeditions Program with gear management and trip preparation.
Provide customer service and outreach for all Carolina Adventures Programs.
Facilitate high and low ropes challenge course programs and coordinate equipment cleaning and maintenance.
Assist Carolina Adventures with data collection, tracking, and analysis.
Assist with the instruction of CPR/AED trainings for student employees.
Additional Salary Information: The internship will be paid up to $950 bi-weekly (approximately $1,750 per month). Interns are expected to work 35 hours per week. Most work hours will occur Mon - Fri between 9am and 9pm; occasional weekend hours will be required.
Starting and ending dates will be negotiated with the direct supervisor but start date must occur on or before August 2, 2021.
