The Adventuresports Institute (ASI) of Garrett College currently has one full time faculty position opening for August 2019. The Search Committee is actively seeking candidates who share the College’s commitment to quality education and lifelong learning in a small, close knit, educationally-oriented environment.
ASI offers a two-year Associates in Applied Science Degree and a one-year Certificate in Adventure Sports Management focusing on students who excel in experiential learning environments, are passionate for adventure education and thrive in expeditionary leadership settings.
Garrett College overlooks Deep Creek Lake and the WISP Ski Area in the Allegheny Mountains of western Maryland. We are surrounded by stunning natural resources, diverse geology, and a distinct four-season climate that come together to create the perfect setting for the outdoor classrooms of our adventure sports program. Located one mile from campus, the Adventure Sports Center International, both a destination and a resource for outdoor and adventure-based recreation, provides a learning laboratory for our students. It has been the site of numerous international competitions, including the 2014 ICF Canoe and Kayak Slalom World Championships.(FMI, www.adventuresportscenter.com).
ASI is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Adventure Sports with a salary range of $43,019 to $60,376 with full benefits package one month after hire date. Salary scale placement based on education and prior experience.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree in adventure education, recreation, or related field; teaching proficiencies in adventure sports field activities as evidenced by prior work experience and documented field log; must have successfully acquired a Wilderness First Responder and CPR certification prior to start date.
Preferred Qualifications: Instructor/instructor trainer certifications from any nationally or internationally recognized certifying body such as AASI, AMGA, ACA, ACCT, LNT, NASAR, NSP, PCGI, PSIA, SOLO, WEA, WMA, or WMI. Preference given to applicants with recreation journalism, outdoor photography, adventure media, wilderness therapy and/or adaptive/inclusive recreation experience.
