The Recreation Department at the University of California- Santa Barbara is looking for an energetic, student focused professional to join our team. Under the direction of the Recreation Director, the Assistant Director for Marketing and Outreach is responsible for the design, implementation, coordination, and the general supervision of the Recreation Department’s marketing and branding efforts. Provides a strategic and integrated approach to effectively promote, market, execute and evaluate departmental programs and services. Coordinates the Recreation Department's marketing and promotional efforts targeting the UCSB and Santa Barbara community including, but not limited to: producing all departmental printed publications; coordinating all temporary building signage; coordinating the audio/video messaging systems; and maintaining the department website and social media sites. Manage and provide long term strategic planning of annual marketing (~$200,000) expenditures. Supervises and mentors the student marketing team (10-12 student employees). Works with the Senior Associate Director to develop an overall development/ sponsorship strategy. Provides the artistic and graphic design support for those efforts.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Thorough analytical and written communication skills. Thorough knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques. Strong interpersonal communication and political acumen skills. Strong skills in event and media activities management. Skill in mentoring less experienced staff. Demonstrated working knowledge of MS Office suite and Adobe Creative Suite. Basic knowledge of design principles and photography /videography. Demonstrated working knowledge of various social media (i.e. Twitter, Snap Chat, Instagram, Facebook, etc.) and web related software such as Drupal or similar. Experience managing social media accounts on behalf of an organization or business.
Masters degree preferred. Three years progressive experience in marketing and promotions, preferably at a University. Successful experience in Campus Recreation or related recreation field preferred. Experience working with college student employees preferred.
Occasional night and weekend work is required.
