Iowa State University Recreation Services is excited to announce the anticipated openings of six graduate assistant positions. We are seeking dynamic individuals with a passion for student development, looking to gain experience working in a fun and progressive environment. All positions listed are 9 month appointments beginning in the Fall of 2019:
The Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer for Recreation Services will develop, coordinate, and administer a comprehensive sports medical program for the Sport Clubs at Iowa State University under the guidance of the Sport Clubs Coordinator and Sport Clubs Athletic Trainer.
The Business Operations Graduate Assistant is a member of the Business Operations area within the department of Recreation Services which is responsible for the financial management, accounting transactions, and oversight of human resources needs for the Department of Recreation Services.
The Graduate Assistant general responsibilities will be to assist Sport Clubs with their budget oversight and serve as a resource to Clubs related to financial transactions and budget development.
The Facilities Graduate Assistant is a member of the Facility Operations team within the Recreation Services Department, which is responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing indoor and outdoor facilities and services to the ISU community. The Graduate Assistant’s general responsibilities will be to assist full time staff with student development, program management and all operations.
The Marketing Graduate Assistant is a member of the marketing team at Recreation Services which is responsible for coordinating all printed, digital and in person communications for the department. This position will assist the full time marketing staff and may include such things as website management, design coordination, in person outreach, event planning, and writing.
The Outdoor Recreation Program Graduate Assistant is a member of the Outdoor Recreation Program within the Recreation Services Department, which is responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing outdoor recreation services to the ISU community. The Graduate Assistant’s general responsibilities will be to assist full time staff with student development, program management and all operations of the ORP.
Turf and Grounds:
The Turf and Grounds Graduate Assistant would be part of Facility Operations within Recreation Services, which is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance off over 120 acres of outside field space. The primary users are Intramurals and Sport Clubs with a few outside groups throughout the year. The Graduate Assistant’s general responsibility would be to make sure all fields are properly maintained and ready for games and practices and to act as the 2nd Assistant to the Assistant Manager of Facilities and Grounds. This position would manage undergraduate turf student employees.
Additional Salary Information: Graduate assistants with an appointment of one-quarter time or more are assessed resident tuition for each term they have an assistantship.
Students who are on half time assistantship or greater and are master's candidates will receive a 50% tuition scholarship award.
Graduate Assistants receive university holidays and single student health insurance coverage which includes a prescription drug plan at no charge. Vacation and sick leave accrual and usage are determined by the supervisor.
Compensation will be approximately $2,000 /month, during fall and spring academic terms. The stipend is subject to income tax withholding requirements as payment for work. Student wage employment during summer break is possible. A Second year assistantship would be offered depending on job performance and funding is available.
