The Student Recreation Center (SRC) at Colorado School of Mines is located in Golden, Colorado. Golden is located in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains and is just a short drive from Denver and Boulder. The Director of Fitness provides leadership and supervision for fitness programs and staff. Responsible for the administration, supervision and day-to-day operation of a comprehensive fitness program. The Director of Fitness will manage purchasing, life cycle, maintenance and repairs for all Rec. Sports fitness related equipment. Primarily responsible for the creation, implementation, supervision and evaluation of a variety of fitness programs. Reporting to the Assistant Athletics Director/Director of Recreational Sports the Director of Fitness will encourage a healthy lifestyle and provide inclusive opportunities for Mines students, faculty, and staff. The Director of Fitness was previously a part-time position, and is now moving to full-time, salaried with benefits.
Leadership and Supervision- 30% - Annually, Essential Function
Provide leadership and mentorship, while creating a working environment that fosters growth and student development.
Coordinate the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of student & non-student staff including group exercise instructors and personal trainers.
Manage the scheduling for all staff to ensure adequate coverage for programs including group exercise classes, personal training appointments, workshops, and special events.
Develop and maintain an instructor training program to educate new and existing staff members.
Program Development- 40% - Annually, Essential Function
Create, manage, and supervise comprehensive fitness program offerings including but not limited to the BeWell Committee, fitness challenges, nutritional programs, stress and sleep management, mindfulness, massage therapy, body image, personal training and assessment programs.
Effectively use Innosoft Fusion software to manage programs, registration and reports.
Utilize various fitness and personal wellness applications and software to best engage the campus community.
Develop and implement a marketing plan for fitness programs
Assess the programs and services regularly to ensure they meet the needs of our members.
Chair or serve on the BeWell Committee to provide leadership and support to the campus collaborative wellness effort
Collaborate with other campus organizations and assist other staff members with special events and programs as requested by the department
Fiscal Management - 20% - Annually, Essential Function
Responsible for fitness program budget
Responsible for maintenance, repairs and life cycle planning for fitness equipment
Manage payroll for fitness staff
Compose monthly, quarterly and annual reports summarizing the successes, areas for improvement, goals collaborations, participation statistics and finances.
Oversee the equipment purchasing process through researching equipment and services, developing RFPs, generating price comparisons and compiling patron feedback regarding various pieces of equipment and supplies in the facility.
Coordinate with the Mines Foundation to secure sponsorship funds for programs
Risk Management—8% - Annually, Essential Function
Ensure quality and safety of programs and equipment keeping up with industry best practices
Manage schedules, inspections, equipment rotation, and scheduled replacement
General: 2% - Annually, Non Essential Function

Perform any and all duties as may be required and/or assigned by the Assistant Athletics Director/Director of Recreational Sports.
Bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education, kinesiology or related field
Progressive professional experience in recreational sports/intercollegiate athletics
Position requires expertise in implementing recreational sports programs, strong leadership abilities, skills in managing conflict, skills in training and leading professionals and student staff.
The ability to work a flexible schedule.
Demonstrated knowledge of student development in higher education.
The successful candidate must possess excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills; and computer proficiency.
Good judgment and decision-making abilities

Current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications, or obtain within one month of hire

Current First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor certifications, or obtain within 12 months of hire
Successful purchasing experience in analyzing products and services as well as developing RFPs.
Previous fiscal and management experience with multi-functional facilities.
Proficient in the use of the following software applications: WhenToWork, SubItUp, Fusion, EMS Scheduling, AMX, Neptune Radio, Microsoft Office Professional, Banner, Ocularis, SideArm Sports, Google Products
Previous experience developing, revising and evaluating policies and procedures for a shared use recreational sports/athletics facility
Previous experience marketing recreational sports programs and services
Experience supervising student employees
Hold two or more certifications in group exercise formats: ZUMBA, SPIN, POUND, TRX, Yoga, etc.
Group Fitness Instructor Certification through ACSM, ACE, or AFAA
Certified Personal Trainer through ACSM, NASM, NSCA, or ACE
Fitness instructor trainer certifications
Overseeing part-time student staff and part-time non-student staff. This includes all aspects of recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating staff. Approving timecards and managing work-study funded student positions. Fiscal management responsibilities including purchasing and maintenance of fitness equipment. Access to university Purchasing Card (Credit Card), and ability to file PO, requisitions and approve payment of invoices for PO’s. Manage Rec. Sports software for group exercise classes and personal training online registration. This position must also make numerous recommendations to the Assistant Athletic Director/Director of Recreational Sports including but not limited to policy and procedures, scheduling, purchases, hours of operation, and fee structure, budgeting, marketing repairs and maintenance.
This position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate with many internal and external entities in a variety of ways. Must communicate with administration, coaches, students (both employees and non-employees) athletes, and guests regarding all aspects of Recreational Sports and Athletics at the Colorado School of Mines. Must communicate efficiently and effectively with wide range of campus partner when scheduling the programs and events. Provides both motivational and directive communication to student staff, campus colleagues and guests. Communicates at an individual level and for large groups with a focus on imparting knowledge as well as presenting policies and procedures. This position must develop written materials that are relevant, clear, and professional. Conflict resolution and managing a diverse team of student employees are critical to being successful in this position. Communicates with alumni and donors to motivate participation and support. This position must be able to understanding patron needs and desired outcomes in group exercise, fitness, and personal training sessions. Additional communication will be in leading workshops, staff training sessions and possibly group exercise classes
