The Coordinator of Athletic Training will provide sports medicine coverage and care to the ECU student population with close attention to the 29 club sports. Responsibilities will include injury prevention, clinical evaluation, emergency care, treatment, rehabilitation, assistance with organization and administration of 2 athletic training rooms and professional development of the athletic training program area in Campus Recreation & Wellness. The Coordinator will report to the Sr. Coordinator of Athletic Training and oversee student employees. The Coordinator may maintain 4-8 regular weekly hours of sports medicine care at Student Health Services under the direction of the Medical Director of Student Services.
Additionally, this position will utilize skills and experience in dealing with concussion evaluations and protocols and COVID-19 return to play. This position will manage time and prioritize care to high-risk patient populations as well as use musculoskeletal evaluation skills to determine when outside referrals are necessary. Sideline nightly care will be provided for club and intramural sports including higher risk teams such as Rugby, Ice Hockey, Lacrosse, Soccer, Cheerleading, Wrestling, Basketball and Flag – Football. Drop-in service and treatment hours are expected in the Athletic Training Center as deemed appropriate. Taping and necessary treatment for athletes prior, during, and after competition is expected alongside sight injury evaluations. Collaboration with East Carolina Athletic Training and Sports Medicine programs is encouraged to receive additional support. The position is expected to work alongside the Sr. Coordinator of Athletic Training and the Medical Director of Student Services, to provide care for patients as needed. The Coordinator of Athletic Training will represent the University at state, regional, and national conferences when the staff deems attendance most appropriate. The work of the Coordinator is reviewed through daily interactions, observations, meetings, and through semester and/or annual evaluations. This position will interact with a diverse cross section of faculty, staff, students, and the public.
Specific responsibilities include:
Attend Club Sport Events to provide necessary on-site care on weeknights and weekends
Conduct athlete intake assessments and maintain medical records for all athletes
Develop customized treatment plans and make appropriate recommendations for athlete’s care
Coordinate with Sr. Coordinator to maintain equipment inventory
Attend annual conferences and weekly staff meetings
Handle clerical tasks such as assisting with budget, restocking inventory, schedule management
Assist in CPR/First Aid/AED instruction to coaches, athletic department staff, and athletic training students and staff
Adhere to regulations of the North Carolina Athletic Trainer Practice Act
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Perform administrative duties as assigned by the Medical Director of Student Services
Required
Master’s degree in Athletic Training; or Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training and 2 years of relevant experience
Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA-BOC) and a license to practice in the State of North Carolina required
Demonstrated knowledge of theory/practice of athletic training
Preferred
At least two years of professional experience
Certified Instructor of CPR/First Aid/AED
Prior experience in High-Risk Sport Coverage
Prior experience in staff supervision and oversite
Excellent leadership and decision-making skills
Strong written and verbal communication and computer utilization skills
Ability to work independently and confidently with little daily supervision
