The purpose of this position is to assist in directing and managing the Outdoor Recreation Program and the Civic Engagement Program to include developing, managing, and evaluating the programs, services, resources, personnel, systems, and overall operations.
The essential functions are as follows: • Assist in overseeing all components and operations associated with Outdoor Rec and Civic Engagement. Establish program goals and oversee program evaluation and development, establish standards, ensure adherence to applicable regulations, monitor work flow, coordinate site needs, adhere to best practices, manage risk, interface with program participants, provide forecasting and future directions, and develop strategies to improve operations and growth. Anticipate and identify issues. • Recruit, hire, train, assign, and evaluate part-time and student personnel; maintain written employee materials and payroll coordination. Assist in the planning of staff meetings, training sessions, and pre-trip meetings; plan and conduct other meetings as needed with facilitators, service providers, guides, participants, vendors, and student staff. • Assist in coordinating all fiscal operations associated with the Outdoor Rec and Civic Engagement programs including monitoring budgets, adhering to accepted budgetary practices, negotiating and finalizing contractual agreements, conducting deposits, facilitating equipment and supply purchases as needed, and overseeing all other fiscal related processes. • Provide on-site coordination and evaluation of activities; advise, address and resolve issues, problems, conflicts and concerns as assigned, and interact with participants and volunteers to ensure that accurate information is provided and positive experiences are attained. Participate in adventure trips and attend civic engagement functions. • Provide assistance and serve as the back up for other Program areas as needed. • Prepare annual and event reports for all areas of responsibility to include data collection and statistical analysis, evaluations and surveys, activity assessments, and program recommendations. • Attend conferences, prepare proposals and presentations, and maintain current knowledge relative to higher education administration, campus recreation, and areas of responsibility. • Serve as a contributing member of Divisional staff; attend and participate in regular staff meetings, serve on committees and perform other duties as assigned; utilize strategic planning, conceptualization, critical thinking, independent judgment, problem solving, creativity, initiative, vision and innovation to ensure quality in all areas of responsibility. Master's degree in Recreation, Sports Administration, Student Personnel Administration or closely related field. Experience in a college-level recreational sports program. Experience in outdoor or civic engagement administration, event coordination, personnel administration and/or managing recreation programs. Exceptional interpersonal, leadership and motivational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication, public relations, organizational and planning skills. Technical proficiency.
A two-year graduate assistantship and one or more years of full-time work experience in campus recreation that includes a broad overview of a Outdoor Recreation and/or Civic Engagement Program. Current certifications in Wilderness First Responder, CPR, Swift Water Rescue, and Climbing Gym Instructor (PCIA or AMGA). Involvement with NIRSA.
Licenses: Class "C" Operators's Drivers' License. Applicant selected must provide a current 3-year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
