The City of Oakland is currently recruiting to fill a Recreation Program Director (Selective Certification – Performance Dance and Language) vacancy at the East Oakland Sports Center with the Oakland Parks and Recreation Department. Incumbent will provide leadership for community-based recreational programs and activities and assist in the management of a recreation facility or city-wide program. The current position oversees the operation of the performance dance unit in a fitness environment; promotes membership and registration opportunities to the public; provides facility tours; creates and manages group performance programs; and plans, coordinates and promotes performing dance programs and special events at the facility; and may teach and lead advanced performance dance programs such as tap, jazz, ballet, contemporary, hip-hop, belly dance and related fitness programs (e.g. yoga, pilates and Zumba), aerobics and related programs. The incumbent must possess specialized knowledge of performance dance programs and activities.
Selective Language Certification:This is a public contact position. The current vacancy requires bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese or Mandarin. The eligible list for this recruitment will also be used to fill vacancies that do not require bilingual skills.
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in recreation or a related field, one year of demonstrated experience coordinating, facilitating and managing specialized performance dance programs and activities, possession of a valid California's Driver's License, and knowledge of principles and techniques of community recreation and basics of physical fitness; basic principles of lead supervision and training; safety standards and work practices, human development and behavior and basic records management. Certifications in Dance or Performing Arts and bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese and Mandarin are highly desirable.
