Company Summary: Volleyball of the Rockies (VOTR) was established in 1987 as a small 12 team grass volleyball league in Denver, Colorado. In the past 20+ years, we have grown to program for over 1,000 volleyball teams a week, two indoor beach facilities and 100+ tournaments all over Colorado and in Mexico, and two bar/restaurants with corporate events. This position will assist VOTR primarily with our 500+ team outdoor grass leagues and summer tournaments. They will learn first-hand the skills and nuances of running a single-day as well as multiple day sporting events and leagues. This is a highly physical position that will require attention to detail, high level of organization, and the ability to communicate effectively to large groups of people.
Time Line: This is a full time/year round position with anticipated start time between January-March with some flexibility.
Hours: 40 hours per week on average. There will be a blend of office, league, refereeing, and tournament requirements.
Island (Office) Duties: Some days may include office work. This will include computing results, preparing schedules, data entry, preparing league/tournament equipment, and projects. Special projects at The Island may include tasks such as loading soft goods for 1,500 tournament participants, packing trucks and trailers for tournaments or leagues, assisting in the setup of special events (non-volleyball), and maintaining equipment used for leagues, tournaments, and our indoor beach volleyball facility, The Island.
League Duties: Summer programming occurs at multiple parks around Metro Denver. Responsibilities include set up / strike, and dealing with programming logistics including schedules, rosters, waivers, no shows, conflict resolution, player questions, rules, and promotion of all other VOTR other volleyball events. He/She will work in tandem with existing VOTR staff and eventually be responsible for smaller divisions. While managing league play, they will act as the communication focal point to as many as 100 teams nightly. The position will also require facilitating play at The Island during late night drop in hours or weekend/weekday sand tournaments.
Referee Duties: Will be responsible for facilitating off-site indoor hard court programming and refereeing matches during the fall and winter months. Will be required to have previous refereeing experience and knowledge or acquire certification after starting.
Summer Tournament Duties: VOTR Coordinators are expected to work all league and weekend tournaments during the duration of the position. They will support the staff in tasks including event promotion, logistics, set up and strike, running brackets, prize distribution, and result tabulation. July 6-8 Steamboat Doubles Volleyball Tournament - 550+ teams Grass/Sand Doubles Tournament in Steamboat, Colorado.
July 14 Mile-Hi Triples and Juniors Tournament - 100+ teams, 3x3 Men's/Women's or 2x2 Juniors Tournament at Washington Park
July 19-22 Snowmass Doubles Tournament - 180 team grass/sand tournament in Snowmass, Colorado.
Aug. 10-13 Breckenridge Doubles Volleyball Tournament - 580+ teams Grass/Sand Doubles Tournament in Breckenridge, Colorado.
Sept. 8-9 4x4/6x6 Summer Grass Challenge - 500+ teams End of Season Grass Tournament at Lowry Sports Complex.
Oct 13th 4x4/6x6 Fall Grass Challenge - 150+ teams End of Season Grass Tournament at Washington Park in Denver.
Winter Tournament Dates: VOTR organizes and manages over 100 tournaments of all sizes each winter in the Denver Metro area. Coordinator will be work in to the schedule with other staff to manage these tournaments including event promotions, logistics, set up and strike, running brackets, prize distribution and result tabulation. Most tournament occupy an hour shift on Friday evening, Saturday Day or Saturday evenings.
Applicant should have experience working in the sport and recreation field as well as previous customer service experience. This position requires close attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple of players/tournament participants at a once, and a level of comfort with troubleshooting problems in a time sensitive situation. There is a certain level of physical fitness required for this position. The ability to carry 50+ lbs, bend and stoop consistently, and be on your feet for long hours is a must. Additional Salary Information: The Coordinator position is a salaried full time position. Starting at $35,000 with a $2,000 September (end of summer) Bonus and an opportunity to move to $38,000 at the 6 month review. Coordinator also have opportunities for overtime at select tournaments and events. VOTR Staff receive a $500 quarterly bonus ($2,000 annually) and a 401K program vests for at 6 months.
