The Aquatics Graduate Assistant will work directly with the Assistant Director of Aquatics to develop the aquatics programs providing leadership in the areas of staffing and aquatics programming at all facilities including the Lee County/FGCU Aquatics Center, SoVi Pool and the Waterfront.
Assist with interviewing, hiring, training, supervising, scheduling & evaluating all Aquatics staff. This includes Lifeguards, Head Guards, Swim Lesson Instructors, Certification Course Instructors, Timing System Operators, and Program Assistants.
Assist in planning and conducting all in-services and staff trainings.
Assist with student staff payroll.
Administer a comprehensive swim lesson program including training, group and private lessons.
Plan and execute all certification courses for both public and on campus groups.
Responsible for all course paperwork and communication with the American Red Cross in regards to certification courses and swim lesson programming.
Serve as the main point of contact to those inquiring to participate in aquatics programs.
Prepare monthly program reports, including statistical and assessment data for certification course and swim lesson programs.
Assist with events/programs that are scheduled in the aquatics facilities including swim meets, team training, and other facility rentals.
Complete written reports and documents including, but not limited to equipment inventory, accident and incident reports, and maintenance requests.
Work with the Marketing Intern to develop and maintain a marketing plan for all Aquatics programs.
Serve on departmental committees as assigned
Maintain daily office hours. Some early morning, late evening and weekend work will be required.
Maintain a safe and controlled environment; identify hazardous conditions and eliminate or minimize them.
Act in a professional manner at all times.
Provides general administrative and clerical support.
Maintain regular and frequent communication with supervisor.
Acceptance into a graduate program at FGCU
Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential
Demonstrated experience with swim lessons and certification courses
Must clear a Level 2 criminal background check
American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid, and AED.
Preference will be given to those with current American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguard Instructor and/or Water Safety Instructor. Applicant must acquire their Water Safety Instructor and/or Lifegaurd Instructor certification within 30 days of hire.
In-state tuition waivers are granted to cover nine (9) credits of coursework during the fall and spring semesters. Student is responsible for additional fees not covered by tuition (i.e. Health Fee, Athletic Fee, Activity & Service Fee, etc). Out-of-state residents are responsible for any additional out-of-state tuition and fees.
This position will receive a stipend of $10,500 for Fall and Spring semester, paid bi-weekly.
Offers of employment are conditional upon acceptance into a Florida Gulf Coast University graduate program.
Appointments for graduate assistant positions are renewable on a yearly basis, and are dependent upon favorable academic standing as well as acceptable performance evaluations.
Preferred dates of employment: August 1, 2018 through May 3, 2020 with summer employment available.
