New England Institute of Technology (NEIT), a private, non-profit, technical university in East Greenwich, RI, has an exciting and unique opportunity for a professional to oversee the operations of the university’s first Fitness Center. The Center opened in October 2017, along with NEIT’s first residence hall. The Coordinator will manage the new Fitness Center and will develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive fitness and recreation program for students.
The Coordinator of Fitness and Recreation is responsible for the overall supervision of the NEIT Fitness Center and all recreational sports programming. The Coordinator supervises a part-time Fitness and Recreation staff member, 6-7 student employees (Fitness Center Assistants), group exercise instructors, and intramural sports officials.
Fitness Center Responsibilities:
Oversee the overall operation of the NEIT Fitness Center.
Coordinate and manage the group exercise program.
Recruit, hire, train, and schedule professional and student staff, including Fitness Center Attendants and group exercise instructors.
Coordinate the purchase and maintenance of Fitness Center and recreational sports equipment.
Maintain professional certifications and serve as a resource on fitness education to the campus community.
Provide instruction on the proper use of strength training and cardiovascular equipment.
Create fitness, recreational, and intramural programming to promote student participation and campus engagement.
Create announcements publicizing Fitness Center and intramural activities for social media, flyers and the student website.
Complete analytical and statistical reports regarding fitness and recreation participation by students and staff.
Collaborate with other departments on educational programming that contributes to a campus-wide wellness program.
Maintain the operational budget for the Fitness Center and recreational sports program.
Coordinate all intramural sports programming:
Develop intramural sports activities.
Oversee the scheduling of on-campus fields and the rental and scheduling of off-campus sporting venues.
Manage teams, rosters, and the planning and execution of sporting events.
Hire and supervise game officials.
Create and maintain an intramural handbook and guidelines for participants.
Participate in university events, including Open Houses, Orientations, Accepted Student Days, and Commencement.

Bachelor’s degree in sport and exercise science, physical education or related field required. Master's degree in recreation/sports management or related field preferred;
Minimum of one year of demonstrated fitness and recreation experience, preferably in higher education;
Familiarity with current trends and practices within the recreational sports profession;
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to relate effectively with students;
Ability to work non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends; and
